Project #1 – Revitalizing Buffalo LS-WXL – Part 3
1.3) Create raid1 using web gui
Raid 1 means we’ll have a couple of disks mirroring each other. It isn’t a great backup solution but again, I don’t store critical data here.
First thing I noticed was that LS-WXL has no problems recognizing 4TB disks. That was a real risk: by default these boxes shipped with 3TB disks. After getting root access, I needed to rebuild the RAID array as by default the NAS creates a single RAID0 array.
Future Kenny, I would like to make a step-by-step on this, but I don’t feel like it. So please check page 92 on the official Buffalo manual. Yes, I’m resorting to RTFM, some things never change!
Please note that rebuilding a 4TB RAID1 array took almost a day, a bit over 18 hours!
